Marine Design Dynamics, Inc. (MDD) was awarded a task order from the Military Sealift Command for structural analysis and design for to T-AH-19 USNS Mercy. The USNS Mercy is the lead ship of the T-AH class of US Navy hospital ships. She was built in 1976 as an oil tanker, and was later converted to a hospital ship for the Navy where her mission is to provide rapid, flexible, and mobile acute medical and surgical services. Due to a service life extension, the T- AH class is scheduled to remain in operation until 2036. The structural modifications designed under this contract are preventive measures to help prevent cracking, and continue in service until 2036.
