In the fall of 2013, MDD was awarded a contract from the Military Sealift Command (MSC) to provide support services in the review and tracking of Assured Power Modifications made to the USS Mount Whitney (MTW).
MTW has been in commission since early 1970 and is at the end of her designed service life. However, The US Navy has decided to extend her service life through 2039, facilitated by major modifications and repairs that are to be coordinated by the Extended Service Life Program (ESLP). The ESLP is a multi-year, $100M+ effort consisting of five shipyard maintenance availabilities over the next five years. In support of ELSP objectives, MSC recently awarded a contract to General Electric Energy Power Conversion (GE), to replace and upgrade major portions of MTW’s power generation, distribution and control systems. This Contract and associated options, designated the Assured Power Modifications, requires GE to develop the necessary system designs, procure numerous major system components and oversee the system installation.
MDD is working to help guide the Assured Power Modifications through completion by assisting with project management from a third-party view, including the review and tracking of numerous Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables submitted by GE for MSC review and support services in marine engineering, naval architecture, electrical engineering, project management and administrative tasks. MDD’s extensive technical experience provides an outside eye in the double-checking of GE’s drawings and designs, while MDD’s proven record in project management allows for the tracking, review and coordination of MSC’s response to deliverables submitted by GE throughout the duration of the Assured Power Modifications Contract.
