MSC Engineering Services (USNS COMFORT)

In late 2013, MDD was awarded a three-year engineering services contract from the Military Sealift Command (MSC). This contract, for MSC directorate N7, covers a wide variety of engineering requirements, including system analysis, stability analysis, and the preparation of design and installation work packages. The first task awarded to MDD under this contract was to develop work packages to upgrade the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system on the USNS COMFORT. The COMFORT is a seagoing Medical Treatment Facility that provides rapid, state of the art, mobile medical services to Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force units deployed at sea and ashore. Due to the ships ever-evolving mission and changing technology, portions of the HVAC system required upgrades.

In December 2013, MDD performed a ship check on the USNS COMFORT to follow up and build upon MSC’s initial investigation in order to develop engineering work packages to facilitate key improvements. MDD provided MSC with detailed drawings and specifications for required equipment and precise installation procedures to upgrade the HVAC system and provide sufficient air flow to all spaces aboard the USNS Comfort. MDD is proud to support the USNS in this effort to improve upon such a vital ship in their fleet.
